Five points of attention in the processing of titanium alloy parts


The most basic of the processing of titanium alloy parts is the following characteristics of titanium alloys that affect turning and milling: low density, low hardness, low heat transfer coefficient and high chemical activity at high temperatures. What should you pay attention to in processing these points? 


The first point:

The heat transfer coefficient is low, that is, it does not transfer heat. When the heat is accumulated on the surface of the workpiece during machining, it is easy to cause the tool to burn too high, resulting in good tool quality and low cutting speed (low speed, low feed).


Second point:

The tool is preferably a special tool for titanium alloy. If it is not, you can use a carbide tool. The higher the hardness, the better. It is recommended to be 55 degrees or more. Because the higher the hardness of the tool, the tighter the texture, the better the heat transfer effect, and try not to use the coating tool. The titanium alloy material will react with the titanium in the coating to cause a "sticking knife".

The third point:

When roughing, the less the balance is left, the better. Titanium alloy has low density, low hardness, and the material is very cotton, which is easy to "make the knife". When roughing, only "cutting is not in place" occurs, and "overcutting" does not occur. In order to avoid the "knife" size is not in place, and repeated processing, the remaining amount is kept as little as possible to improve the processing efficiency.


fourth point:

Do a good job of cooling when processing. More attention should be paid to the finishing of small micro-cutting. Titanium alloy scraps with small particle size will "burn" in more than 200 degrees.


Fifth:

Large-scale plants with conditions, usually with "liquid nitrogen" for processing and cooling (less than 170 degrees of liquid nitrogen through the heat exchanger, into a gas of minus 50 degrees, directly sprayed in the tool and workpiece contact area). This improves processing efficiency.
